House Rules: Simple Protective Circles

Anyone with the proper knowledge can create a simple protective circle with the right materials and time. The creator must have the ability to draw the circle with something and also imbue the circle with at least a drop of blood. Note that these are simple circles and a Wizard, Sorcerer or Focused Practitioner can draw more potent circles.

Requirements:

  • Something to draw the circle with (chalk for example)
  • Space to draw the circle
  • 1 full minute to draw the circle (see below for time modifiers)

Effect:

  • Roll a Conviction total to determine the strength of the circle (per the ward rules). This becomes the effect level in the form of a block.
  • A circle will function against any wholly magical effect and a summoned / pure fae creature.
  • Attackers attempting to breach a circle can attempt to break them down in the same way as wards (apply successful shifts to reduce the strength of the circle instead of as effect).
  • A circle will remain in effect until it is broken.
  • A circle can be up to 1 yard in diameter for every 2 full points of Conviction skill

Modifiers:

  • +1 for using salt (requires double time to produce)
  • +/-X for using an appropriate item (situational depending on effect targetting it)
  • -1 per each additional person inside the circle
  • +1 for spending 5 minutes or more
  • -2 for spending less than 1 minute
